The latest renewable energy news includes announcements from Orsted, ACME Solar, Trina Storage, Blackwater Solar Project in New Mexico, and others.

Orsted Starts Construction of 200 MW Blackwater Solar Project in New Mexico

Orsted has started construction of the 200 MW Blackwater Solar project in Roosevelt County, New Mexico, marking its first renewable-energy project in the state. Located between Portales and Clovis, the solar farm is expected to generate electricity equivalent to annual consumption of more than 56,000 homes in the Southwest Power Pool region. The project has a long-term power purchase agreement supporting growing industrial electricity demand and will use US-manufactured solar modules supplied by First Solar. Commercial operation is scheduled for late 2027. Blackwater is expected to generate almost $18 million in property-tax revenue for Roosevelt County over its operating life, alongside construction-related economic activity.

ACME Solar Commissions Another 53.63 MW / 214.52 MWh of Rajasthan Battery Storage

ACME Solar Holdings subsidiary ACME Greentech Seventh has commissioned Phase III of its battery-storage project at Kelan in Bikaner, Rajasthan, adding 53.63 MW/214.52 MWh. The September 30 commissioning increases operational capacity at the site to 159.58 MW/638.32 MWh. The battery installation forms part of a much larger 300 MW/1,200 MWh firm and dispatchable renewable-energy project, with electricity contracted to SJVN under a power purchase agreement. Commercial operation of the latest phase is scheduled from October 2, 2026. The commissioning represents another substantial block of four-hour battery capacity entering operation as Indian renewable developers increasingly combine solar and wind generation with storage to provide dispatchable electricity.

Trina Storage Commissions 15 MW / 60 MWh Battery at Portuguese Solar Farm

Trina Solar has commissioned its first battery-storage project in Portugal in partnership with Prosolia Energy. The 15 MW/60 MWh Albispark BESS at Castelo Branco has been integrated with an existing 34.4 MWp solar farm, creating one of Portugal’s larger operating solar-plus-storage facilities. The project is also Prosolia Energy’s first international utility-scale battery hybridisation development. The four-hour battery enables solar electricity generated during high-output periods to be stored and dispatched later, while potentially providing grid-flexibility services. The commissioning gives Trina Storage an operating reference project in Portugal as the country’s growing renewable-generation fleet increases demand for storage capable of shifting electricity and supporting grid stability.
