India Approves ₹1.86 Lakh Crore Green Energy Corridor for 135 GW Renewables and 50 GWh Storage

India’s Union Cabinet has approved Green Energy Corridor Phase III with an outlay of ₹1,86,405 crore, targeting transmission infrastructure capable of evacuating 135 GW of renewable energy and deployment of 50 GWh of battery storage. The programme allocates ₹1,36,378 crore to intra-state transmission systems and ₹50,000 crore to BESS, backed by ₹54,082 crore of central financial assistance. Greenfield transmission projects will use tariff-based competitive bidding, while upgrades can follow a cost-plus model. State transmission utilities will coordinate implementation. Completion is targeted by FY2032-33, supporting India’s longer-term goal of reaching 900 GW of installed non-fossil generation capacity by 2035. India Today
