Greentech Lead America: Select Energy Services has formed a joint venture with Fountain Quail Water Management (Fountain Quail), a wholly owned subsidiary of Aqua-Pure Ventures, a company specializing in recycling of oilfield and shale gas wastewater.

The agreement strengthens Fountain Quail’s ROVER mobile water treatment package, which addresses one of the most pressing challenges for operators in unconventional oil and gas plays.

ROVER is an in-field technology that can treat up to 10,000 barrels of flowback and produced water per day, outputting clean brine that can be re-used in a broad range of drilling operations.

The companies recently completed a recycling project in the Permian region for a large, public, independent E&P company, which has successfully treated and recycled nearly 300,000 barrels of water on site.

Under this contract, Fountain Quail will contribute technical expertise and equipment to Select’s water management solutions, while Select will provide capital necessary to expand Fountain Quail’s capabilities.  Both companies will leverage current energy producer partnerships to expand business opportunities.

“We have vetted and piloted numerous technologies for clarification of salt water, and ROVER proved the most effective and consistent under all variations of conditions,” said Mike Howdeshell, vice president of Select Energy Services’ engineered water solutions group, Fluidity.  “Fountain Quail technologies are the perfect fit for our Fluidity portfolio of solutions.”

“The seamless combination of Select’s project coordination and management, containment, trucking and transfer services, along with the ROVER treatment process was evident,” said Richard Broderick, Fountain Quail /Aqua-Pure EVP business development and chairman of the FQS board.

“The validation achieved from our latest commercial project has solidified our joint venture with Select and provided a convincing reference for future opportunities,” Broderick added.

Select Energy Services operates through its business segments WaterOne and WellOne and its multi-service integrated water solutions package, Fluidity.
Aqua-Pure is a Calgary-based oilfield engineering and services firm that has developed and commercialized cutting-edge technology that transforms wastewater from a liability to an asset.
