Siemens Energy has secured a major contract to supply advanced power generation technology and maintenance services for the Misfah and Duqm Independent Power Producer (IPP) projects in Oman. Financial details were not disclosed.

The two combined-cycle gas-fired power plants will have a planned generation capacity of nearly 2.6 gigawatts (GW), increasing Oman’s total electricity capacity by almost 20 percent. The facilities are expected to provide reliable electricity to more than 2 million people, addressing rising power demand across the Sultanate.

Siemens Energy will supply six SGT5-4000F F-class gas turbines, six SGen5-2000P generators, and 20-year long-term service agreements covering the operation and maintenance of the critical equipment. The advanced gas turbines are designed with hydrogen co-firing capability, allowing future integration of hydrogen fuel to support lower-carbon electricity generation.

The Misfah power plant will strengthen electricity supply in the Muscat Governorate, one of Oman’s largest power consumption regions, while the Duqm project will support the rapidly expanding Special Economic Zone at Duqm in the Al Wusta Governorate, an important industrial, logistics, and maritime hub along the Arabian Sea.

The projects are being developed by a consortium comprising Etihad Water and Electricity Company, Nebras Power Investment Management, Bahwan Infrastructure Services, and Korea Western Power. Engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) activities are being executed by Doosan Enerbility in partnership with SEPCO-3. Nama Power and Water Procurement Company will purchase the electricity generated by the plants.

Manufacturing of the key components will take place in Germany. The SGT5-4000F gas turbines will be produced at Siemens Energy’s Berlin facility, while the SGen5-2000P generators will be manufactured in Muelheim, supporting the delivery of high-efficiency power generation technology for one of Oman’s largest energy infrastructure projects.
