By Greentech Lead America: The Babcock & Wilcox
Company (B&W), a clean energy technology company, announced its
subsidiary B&W PGG will design, supply and erect environmental equipment
for Alliant Energy subsidiary Wisconsin Power and Light Company’s (WPL)
coal-fired Columbia Energy Center in Pardeeville, Wis.

Under the $150 million contract, B&W PGG will
engineer and supply four spray dry absorber systems, two pulse jet fabric
filters, a lime preparation system, ash recycle systems and related equipment
for Columbia Units 1 and 2.

B&W PGG’s subsidiary, Babcock & Wilcox

construction of the project is scheduled to begin in October 2012.

“B&W’s suite of emissions control products and our
highly experienced construction team give us options and flexibility to meet
all of our customers’ environmental needs,” said J. Randall Data, president and
chief operating officer, B&W PGG.

Babcock & Wilcox Company awarded DOE contract for Carbon
Capture Research

Recently, B&W announced that the U.S. Department of
Energy (DOE) awarded a $2.8 million financial assistance funding to B&W’s
subsidiary – Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group.

DOE granted this fund to study chemical formulations to
improve the performance of B&W’s Regenerable Solvent Absorption Technology
(RSAT) process solvent used to capture carbon dioxide (CO2) from coal-fired
power plants.
