Trina Solar, a solar energy solutions provider, has marked another milestone in its global expansion by inaugurating its silicon wafer production facility in Vietnam.

Trina Solar did not reveal its investment plan for the new manufacturing unit in Vietnam.

The silicon wafer production factory, situated in Thai Nguyen, 80 kilometers north of Hanoi, commenced operations on August 23rd with the production of its first 210mm monocrystalline silicon wafers. The move not only solidifies Trina Solar’s position in the renewable energy sector but also enhances its ability to cater to the worldwide demand for solar products.

Having received the green light for production on July 31st, the factory swiftly swung into action, with its first 12-inch monocrystalline silicon rod being produced on August 4th. With an impressive annual wafer production capacity of 6.5GW, the facility is set to bolster Trina Solar’s global distribution capabilities substantially.

The new factory is not solely dedicated to wafer production, as it boasts a cell capacity of 4GW and a module capacity of 5GW. Its comprehensive setup encompasses monocrystalline pulling, silicon rod square processing, slicing, and silicon processing. The silicon wafers churned out by this facility will primarily serve as essential components for cell and module production across Trina Solar’s various sites, including those in Vietnam and Thailand, as well as meeting the company’s commitments to the lucrative U.S. market.

Particularly noteworthy are the Vertex modules manufactured by Trina Solar outside of China. These modules have rapidly become a go-to choice globally, thanks to their exceptional power, efficiency, reliability, energy yield, and low levelized cost of energy (LCOE). The new Vietnamese silicon wafer factory plays a pivotal role in ensuring a steady and reliable supply of materials for the production of these high-performance modules at Trina Solar’s overseas facilities.

In harmony with its ambition to lead the charge in intelligent solar energy solutions on a global scale, Trina Solar’s mission of “solar energy for all” resonates throughout its endeavors. Beyond crafting competitive products, the company is also committed to generating employment opportunities and fostering sustainable development. The Thai Nguyen wafer factory, for instance, has provided jobs for around 700 locals, underscoring Trina Solar’s dedication to both innovation and community enrichment.

Moreover, Trina Solar is actively driving sustainable practices and building robust industrial ecosystems at home and abroad. The commencement of 210mm n-type i-TOPCon cell production at its Qinghai factory in early August stands as a testament to the company’s comprehensive approach. By integrating the entire manufacturing process, Trina Solar is rapidly establishing a cohesive n-type industrial framework, reinforcing its pioneering position in the era of n-type technology.

With its latest achievements, Trina Solar continues to propel the solar energy industry forward through cutting-edge products, collaborative ecosystems, and an unwavering commitment to sustainable development.
