Today’s renewable energy news includes updates from Siemens Gamesa, ENOVA, Iberdrola, among others.
Siemens Gamesa Secures 1GW South Korea Offshore Wind Supply Agreement
Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has signed a capacity reservation agreement with Haesong Offshore Wind for the Haesong 1 and Haesong 3 offshore wind projects in South Korea, covering around 1GW of planned capacity. The agreement secures turbine manufacturing capacity for the projects and advances cooperation beyond an earlier memorandum of understanding into execution-stage collaboration. The partnership includes coordination across procurement, technology and commercial activities to support long-term project delivery. Doosan Enerbility has also issued a letter of intent supporting domestic turbine assembly cooperation linked to the projects, strengthening local supply chain participation. The development highlights continued investment and innovation in South Korea’s offshore wind sector, supporting industrial growth, domestic manufacturing capabilities, renewable energy expansion and long-term energy security as the country accelerates clean energy deployment.
ENOVA Begins 30MW Wind Farm Repowering in Germany
ENOVA has started construction on a 30MW repowering project at the Hiddels wind farm in Germany. The project will replace 11 older turbines with five modern Vestas V150 turbines rated at 6MW each. The upgraded turbines are expected to begin operations in the second half of 2027 and will significantly increase the site’s electricity generation capacity. ENOVA said the repowered wind farm will produce enough renewable electricity to supply around 20,500 two-person households annually. As part of the development, ENOVA is also constructing a new substation to provide direct grid access and improve transmission efficiency. The company noted that the repowering will increase output at the site by around 1.6 times through the use of modern turbine technology and optimised grid infrastructure. The project highlights continued investment and innovation in wind farm repowering, enabling higher renewable energy production from existing sites while improving land use efficiency, grid integration and long-term sustainable energy supply in Germany.
Iberdrola Expands Italian Renewable Portfolio with 40MW Wind Acquisition
Iberdrola has agreed to acquire a 40MW wind farm in Basilicata, Italy, from Belenergia and RGREEN INVEST. The wind facility was commissioned in 2018 and operates under a long-term incentive scheme that provides stable and predictable cash flows. Following the acquisition, Iberdrola’s installed renewable energy capacity in Italy will increase to around 450MW. The project is located close to Iberdrola’s Lucania Complex, where the company is also developing additional renewable assets including the 20MW Montelungo solar PV project currently under construction. The acquisition complements Iberdrola’s broader Italian renewable portfolio, including the 174MW Etruria Complex and the 243MW Fenix solar project. The transaction highlights continued investment and expansion in Italy’s renewable energy sector, supporting clean power generation, energy security and long-term decarbonisation objectives across the country.
