Today’s renewable energy news includes announcements from Pacifico Energy, Econergy, Deutsche Bahn, MaxSolar, among others.
Pacifico Energy Cleared to Build 320 MWh Battery Storage Project in Italy
Pacifico Energy Partners has received authorization to develop a 40 MW/320 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Sardinia, Italy, marking a significant expansion of its European energy storage portfolio. The project will provide eight hours of electricity storage, delivering grid balancing, frequency regulation and enhanced integration of renewable energy into Italy’s power network. The approval strengthens Pacifico Energy’s long-duration energy storage strategy and supports Italy’s efforts to improve grid flexibility while accelerating the transition to a low-carbon electricity system. Once operational, the BESS will help stabilize renewable power generation, increase energy security and contribute to the country’s decarbonisation objectives through utility-scale battery storage infrastructure.
Econergy Secures GBP 42.7 Million Financing for 80 MW UK Battery Project
Econergy Renewable Energy has secured GBP 42.7 million (USD 57.5 million/EUR 49.5 million) in project financing from Santander UK for its 80 MW/240 MWh Immingham Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Lincolnshire, England. The company also signed a 10-year optimisation and revenue floor agreement with EDF Wholesale Market Services, providing guaranteed minimum revenue while preserving upside market potential. The three-hour duration battery project is expected to begin commercial operations in 2027 and forms part of Econergy’s nearly 3 GW UK energy storage pipeline. Eyal Podhorzer, Chief Executive Officer of Econergy, said the financing and optimisation package strengthens the company’s strategy of converting its development pipeline into long-term revenue-generating assets while supporting the UK’s clean energy transition.
Deutsche Bahn Signs 10-Year PPA for MaxSolar Hybrid Solar and Storage Project
DB Energie, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn AG, has signed a 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with MaxSolar for electricity from the 215 MWp Seubersdorf Solar Park in Bavaria, Germany. The hybrid project also includes a 100 MW/200 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), enhancing grid flexibility and renewable energy integration. Scheduled to enter commercial operation in 2028, the project will supply green electricity to power Deutsche Bahn’s rail operations, supporting its goal of operating entirely on renewable electricity. The agreement strengthens MaxSolar’s position in Germany’s utility-scale renewable energy market while accelerating the country’s energy transition through large-scale solar generation combined with battery storage.
