Today’s renewable energy news includes announcements from CIP, Qualitas Energy, Zelestra , among others.
CIP Approves 420 MW Solar and 150 MW Battery Mega Project in Mexico
Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has reached the final investment decision (FID) and financial close for the La Esperanza Solar Project, a 420 MWdc solar photovoltaic plant paired with a 150 MW/750 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Campeche, Mexico. The project, CIP’s first in Mexico to begin construction, represents an investment of approximately USD 510 million financed by BNP Paribas, JPMorgan Chase Bank, Natixis CIB, Santander and Scotiabank. Backed by a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with CFE Calificados, commercial operations are expected in 2028. Peter Halmø, Head of Latin America at CIP, said the hybrid project will enhance grid reliability and accelerate renewable energy integration across the Yucatán Peninsula, while Ole Kjems Sørensen, Partner at CIP, highlighted its strategic importance for the company’s Latin American growth.
Qualitas Energy Acquires 188 MWp Texas Solar Project
Heelstone Renewable Energy, a Qualitas Energy company, has acquired the 188 MWp Cypress Pointe Solar Project in Sabine County, Texas, from Azimuth Renewables. Located within the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) market, the utility-scale solar project has been advanced through its early and mid-stage development by Azimuth Renewables and is expected to begin commercial operations in 2029. The acquisition expands Qualitas Energy’s U.S. renewable energy portfolio and strengthens its long-term growth strategy in the North American solar market. The project will contribute to clean electricity generation, enhance regional energy security and support the growing demand for renewable power in Texas while advancing the company’s pipeline of utility-scale solar investments.
Zelestra Brings Three Spanish Solar Plants into Commercial Operation
Zelestra has announced the full commercial operation of three solar power plants—Brazatortas I, II and IV—in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain, with a combined capacity of 57 MWac. Developed by Zelestra’s in-house EPC team, the projects will generate approximately 130 GWh of renewable electricity annually under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Tesla. The milestone strengthens Zelestra’s growing renewable energy portfolio in Spain, where it has a 6.8 GW pipeline of solar, wind and battery storage projects, including 1.2 GW already contracted. Jaime Burguete, CEO of Zelestra Spain, said the projects demonstrate the company’s ability to deliver reliable, customer-focused clean energy solutions while supporting Spain’s decarbonisation goals and meeting Tesla’s renewable electricity demand.
