Today’s renewable energy news includes updates from Elisa Industriq, Rezolv, Enery, ESA, among others.
Elisa Industriq’s Gridle to Optimise 10MWh Akkux Battery System in Finland
Elisa Industriq has signed an agreement through its Gridle platform to optimise a 10MWh battery energy storage system operated by Akkux in Finland. The project marks another step in expanding AI-driven battery optimisation services across the Nordic energy market. The Gridle platform uses artificial intelligence to manage battery operations, enabling participation in electricity reserve and balancing markets while improving efficiency and revenue generation. The optimisation service is designed to enhance flexibility, support renewable integration, and strengthen grid stability during periods of fluctuating power demand. The collaboration highlights growing investment and innovation in smart energy management technologies, supporting Finland’s transition toward a more flexible and low-carbon electricity system while delivering long-term operational and sustainability benefits.
Rezolv Commissions 225MW Solar and Storage Project in Bulgaria
Rezolv Energy has inaugurated the 225MW St. George solar park in Silistra, Bulgaria, marking one of the country’s largest renewable energy projects. Built on the former Silistra airport site, the $300 million development includes nearly 400,000 solar panels capable of generating around 313GWh of electricity annually. The project also features a 90MW/240MWh battery energy storage system supported by the European Union’s NextGenerationEU programme, improving grid flexibility and renewable integration. Around one-third of the solar output will be supplied to Ardagh Glass Packaging-Europe under a 12-year virtual power purchase agreement. Financing included €90 million from International Finance Corporation and Raiffeisen Bank International. The project highlights major investment and innovation in hybrid solar-storage infrastructure, strengthening Bulgaria’s energy security, decarbonisation efforts, and long-term clean energy growth.
Enery Commissions 150MW Battery Storage Project in Bulgaria
Enery has commissioned the 150MW/601.8MWh Nova Zagora battery energy storage system in southeastern Bulgaria, now considered the largest operational battery project in Central and Eastern Europe. The standalone facility is designed to strengthen grid stability by storing excess electricity and supplying power during periods of peak demand. The project includes 120 battery containers connected through a dedicated 33/110-kV substation and operates under a virtual power purchase agreement with energy trader Vitol. Financing was supported by a green loan package from DSK Bank, part of OTP Group. The development highlights major investment and innovation in large-scale battery infrastructure, supporting renewable integration, reducing fossil fuel dependence, improving energy security, and accelerating Bulgaria’s transition toward a more flexible and resilient power system.
ESA Sells 150MW Michigan Battery Storage Project to Ørsted
ESA Solar Energy has sold the 150MW Salzburg battery energy storage project in Michigan to Ørsted, expanding Orsted’s growing US energy storage portfolio. The standalone project is strategically positioned to support Michigan’s clean energy and grid reliability goals, with commercial operations targeted between 2029 and 2030. The Salzburg project includes a 150MW/600MWh battery system designed for peak shaving, load shifting and grid regulation services. Located in Midland Township, the facility will connect directly to Michigan’s transmission network through a dedicated substation. The transaction highlights continued investment and innovation in large-scale battery storage infrastructure as utilities accelerate renewable integration. The project is expected to strengthen grid resilience, support Michigan’s transition toward 100 percent clean energy by 2040, and enhance long-term energy security across the region.
