America: Greenberg Traurig, an international, full-service law firm,
has expanded several green initiatives in celebration of Earth Day.
The firm has hosted a lunch featuring Lynden B. Miller, a public garden
designer and director of the Conservatory Garden at Central Park. Miller
discussed how public open spaces with good, well-maintained plantings can
change city life.
The firm also has collected old cell phones, raised money to
support New York City parks and increased the collection of recyclable waste in
the firm’s New York office.
“These initiatives are part of Greenberg
Traurig’s effort to celebrate Earth Day and reaffirm the firm’s
commitment to environmentally-friendly practices and to being a
responsible corporate citizen,” said Warren Karp, co-managing shareholder of
the New York office.
To collect old cell phones, the firm encouraged employees to
place the phones in collection bins located throughout the office. The phones
will be turned over to a phone
recycling program that disposes of phones in an environmentally sound
way while refurbishing salvageable units to generate funds that support
domestic violence organizations around the country.
To support parks, the firm’s employees have donated $5 to
New Yorkers for Parks, a citywide independent organization championing quality
parks and open spaces for all New Yorkers in all neighborhoods.
The recycling initiative
involves the permanent placement of blue recycling bins at each work
station for the collection of paper. Bins also have been placed in
pantries for the collection of cans, bottles and other recyclables.
“We are committed to maximizing resource efficiencies and
minimizing resource waste, and Earth Day provided a good opportunity to
emphasize these goals and develop strategies for achieving them,” said Ed
Wallace, co-managing shareholder of Greenberg Traurig’s New York office.
