GE Intelligent Platforms has announced that the City of Cincinnati’s Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) has standardized its Proficy Software policy for optimizing wet weather facilities, equipment and operations.

Proficy solutions help to collect the informative data about various wastewater systems located in remote areas and assemble a watershed update, feeding for city’s management purpose.

The MSD of Cincinnati will be working with GE Intelligent Platforms and Gray Matter, which will provide integrations and solutions to apply Proficy Software on new solutions that can be simulated by other wastewater utilities.

This platform enables to meet the needs in addition to developing new capabilities to improve water quality that can be leveraged by other CSO communities. That means it is not only solving problems but nationally implementing similar platforms, said, Tony Parrott, director, Water and Sewers, City of Cincinnati.

Besides, the project aims the reduction of discharges from combined sewer overflows as part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean Water Act, where cities are required to reduce releases of untreated wastewater into the environment.

The MSD will be utilizing the full suite of Proficy Software including GE’s Industrial Automation Solutions like Proficy iFIX, Historian and CSense, as well as the company’s new mobile applications, such as Proficy Mobile to obtain excess water produced data during heavy rainfall or snowmelt, which can cause discharge of pollutants. The city is leading at Proficy Workflow integrated with its CMMS system for real-time management, taking work orders on faster response.

GE is on a development mode that incorporates with the utility’s needs in future. The Proficy software will help MSD to leverage the technologies for wet weather operational optimization and allow accelerated implementation of analytics and decision providing tools, said, Bernie Anger, GM, GE Intelligent Platforms.

MSD can take technology forward and introduce data analytics for identifying the optimal method to manage flows through their system, utilizing the Data Management & Analytics solutions available in the Proficy software.

Moreover, it can also reduce the total cost of ownership as there won’t be new assets to maintain and long term sustainability to deal with.
