FIGARO will present its modern precision irrigation DSS system at a special partners meeting to be held January 19-21, 2015 in Rome.

The FIGARO (Flexible and Precise Irrigation Platform to Improve Farm Scale Water Productivity) platform V1 is a decision support system that helps to improve irrigation management for farmers.

The FIGARO works as a SaaS platform, providing latest on-line information and recommendations on the best irrigation and fertilization schedules.

On connecting the platform to real-world sensors, environmental and crop-growth data can be collected using in-field and remote sensors.

Data is provided for specific crops, soils, water and climate conditions and data sources include soil moisture, water meters, satellite images and weather stations.

The collected data is fed into the DSS platform models and provide the crop module operating on real-time data.

The system helps in effective water management for irrigation, reducing the amount of water to be used. Moreover, it helps in the reduction of fertilizer usage and increase of crop yields.

The FIGARO system has already been tested in field tests carried out in nine European countries with hopeful results.

In the coming months, the FIGARO platform will be presented to farmers through workshops conducted in various European countries.

During the event, plans for field testing and further improvements will be discussed. A new sensor and several applications which will feed additional data into the system will also be presented.
