Greentech Lead India: Larsen & Toubro has commissioned
a 6 MW solar project for Sun Group in Gujarat. The project is located at
Gujarat Solar Park in Patan district. The construction of the project was
completed within three months.
EPC service provider L&T claims this is the fastest
executed solar projects in India. Sun Group is expected to have invested Rs 75
crore in the project, according to a report in Economic Times.
“The solar park provided us significant logistical ease besides economies
of scale and scope, allowing us to complete multiple projects simultaneously
within the Government’s deadline. The experience and expertise gained over the
installation of 114 MW in a year came in handy to handle the complete design,
engineering, procurement and construction of this 6MWp fast-track solar power
plant,” said SN Subrahmanyan, senior executive vice president and board
member, L&T.
Sun Group is a private equity fund manager in India,
Russia, and other emerging markets with interests in mining, energy, renewable
energy, real estate, infrastructure, technology and food and beverages.
Gujarat
Solar Park accounts for 214 MW of photovoltaic solar capacity. It is an
initiative of the state government to promote solar energy deployment in
Gujarat by streamlining the development process.
The State Government allocated land to the project
developers along with the required infrastructure for solar development such as
power evacuation, roads, water, security, as well as single-window approvals.
“We were able to complete the 6MWp in a short time only because of the
Solar Park infrastructure. And, Gujarat Government’s disciplined periodic
milestone reviews ensured timely progress of the solar park projects,”
said Pankaj Sehgal, head of Sun Group’s Renewable Energy.
L&T strengthened its position as the largest EPC
player in the country’s solar power sector with orders for over 200 MW.
