Greentech Lead Asia: Kyocera and its six partners have
completed the capital investment procedures to establish a new company to
operate a 70 MW solar power plant in southern Japan. The new company, Kagoshima
Mega Solar Power Corporation, will develop and operate the solar power plant in
Kagoshima City (Kagoshima Prefecture).
Kyocera, Mizuho Corporate Bank and other investment
companies including IHI Corporation, Kyushu Electric Power, Mizuho Corporate
Bank, KDDI Corp, Kyudenko Corp, Takenaka corp, Bank of Kyoto and Kagoshima
bankhave provided the financial arrangements for the new company. Kyocera is
the largest shareholder in the new company. The total project cost is estimated
at approximately 27 billion yen (approx. 345 million US dollars).
When completed this will be the largest solar plant in
the country. The project will be located on land owned by IHI Corporation. The
power produced by the plant will be sold to Kyushu Electric Power under the
guidelines of the new feed-in tariff (FIT) program which was implemented on
July 1 in Japan.
Kyocera will supply its solar
modules for the plant and also be the part of the construction and maintenance
of the system. Kyudenko Corporation and Takenaka Corporation will
cooperate with Kyocera to construct the plant. The construction of the
project is expected to begin in September of this year, with plans for
completion by fall of 2013.
KYOCERA supplies 209kW solar power generating system to Majuro
Hospital in the Marshall Islands
Recently, Kyocera in partnership with Marubeni Corporation
and Wakachiku Construction, supplied a 208.98kW solar power generating system
to the Majuro Hospital in the Republic of the Marshall Islands, a part of
Micronesia. The system is comprised of 972 Kyocera 215-watt solar modules and
expected to produce approximately 257MWh of annual electricity.
