Japanese firm Fuji Electric is planning to establish a smart grid in Vijayawada of Andhra Pradesh to develop an efficient energy management system.

Vijayawada is the capital of newly formed AP and the setting up of an advanced smart grid will help the government in monitoring the energy consumption as well as predicting the demand for next 24 hours.

As a follow-up to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s visit to Japan in November last year, officials of Fuji Electric met him recently in India expressing the willingness to set up the smart grid on pilot basis.

The minister has asked the company representatives to help the state with technologies to curtail the transmission and commercial losses to 6 percent from the existing 12.9 percent.

In addition, the minister has also demanded to explore possibility of introducing dynamic and cost-effective pricing system for power and also study the feasibility of introducing remote-controlled power stations.

The state government wants the team to identify the possibilities of further collaboration in energy-related technology areas such as clean energy.

The minister admitted that energy efficiency and energy saving is one of the government’s focus areas.

According to the Fuji officials, through their smart grid technology, they would install sensors in buildings and gated communities to monitor consumption of energy and forecast of energy requirements, apart from insights into energy consumption patterns.

Fuji officials have plans to visit the state again in March along with the team from New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).

Fuji had already conducted a feasibility study on smart energy grid for Panipat in Haryana and will submit the report soon.

The smart grid permits supplying energy to other grids if the demand is less from one grid and more from the others.

Last week, AP government has given nod to some significant solar and wind energy policies in cabinet.

The single window system, easy permissions and industry like treatment for rendering clearances are some of the striking features among the policies approved by the ministry.
