As part of improving fuel consumption, GE is imparting expertize power conversion technology to Brazilian supply vessel.

GE’s Power Conversion business is supplying dynamic positioning (DP) and vessel control systems for a series of next generation Platform Supply Vessels (PSV4500) for Petrobras in the Brazilian offshore market.

GE will be installing this technology in four ships under this contract, bringing the number of Starnav ships featuring GE control systems to a total of 13.

The ships are currently under construction at the Detroit shipyard with the Brazilian shipbuilder, Starnav Serviços Marítimos.

Fuel efficiency is the primary target of the PSV, the first of which will be commissioned and put into operation by Starnav in 2015 for Petrobras.

The Energy Efficient mode is an integral part of the ecomagination portfolio, which is incorporated with the help of control system provided by GE.

The predictive control algorithm, developed by GE predicts future motion and updates the thrust demands if the vessel travels outside the permitted area.

Subsequently, this technology helps in reducing fuel consumption, emissions and equipment maintenance requirements.

Besides, GE’s vessel automation and control system features fuel monitoring, recording and advisory system.

With the help of these aspects, operator gets a clear picture of the fuel consumption in individual and cumulative operational mission, helping to improve cost efficiency and effective function.

GE’s technology also helps to increase the entire competitiveness of the system by providing prized charters with the help of reliability factors.

Shipping vessels industry demands effective performance with optimized fuel consumption and reduced environmental footprint as it is facing a greater competition nowadays.
