Electrovaya given IESS grant for Toronto and London Hydro system supply

Electrovaya, the Canadian lithium-ion battery maker recently received a $1.3-million grant to boost up the production and delivery of Intelligent Energy Storage Systems (IESS) for Toronto Hydro and London Hydro.

The grant is supported by the Ontario Ministry of Energy’s Smart Grid Fund and the units are expected to be installed and online by the middle of 2015.

The IESS units will be put to use for a number of different specific applications like infrastructure deferment, electric vehicle charging, phase balancing, and general energy storage functions.

Electrovaya recently announced its cooperation with Walmart Canada on a number of projects for lowering Walmart’s carbon emissions footprint, by improving the efficiency of the distribution and warehousing industries.

Already, Walmart Canada has conducted tests for the Electrovaya lithium-ion 2.0 technology for six months, and approving as their vendor after satisfied results, says, Sankar Das Gupta, CEO, Electrovaya.
