Crompton Greaves (CG), an Avantha Group company, is to supply Data Concentrator Units (DCUs) produced by its wholly-owned subsidiary ZIV, to Energias de Portugal (EDP). EDP is a major European operator in the energy sector.
The ZIV 4CTT DCUs are the first PRIME alliance certified devices and had received the certificate last year.
According to CG, the ZIV DCUs have proven performance onsite. Besides other management functions, they are able to retrieve and store data from meters and forward it to the Management System at regular intervals.
The latest contract constitutes the second batch — the largest lot — of DCUs.
EDP had initiated the deployment of PRIME Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) in Portugal a year ago. And it selected CG as a key supplier of data concentrators.
EDP Distribuição has more than 6 million clients and 220,000 km network. The company has already installed 3,000 DTCs under the InovGrid project, a statement said. It is targeting 10,000 PRIME DTCs as the target for the year.
CG has won some important contracts, including Iberdrola, Gas Natural Fenosa, EDP, ERDF, and Saudi Arabia this year.
Referring to the current contract the CEO and Managing Director of CG, Laurent Demortier, said, “This new win strengthens our leadership in Power Line Communicated Solutions. As the first provider having developed its own implementation of power line communication technology in its smart grid devices, we foresee a promising future in this market segment.”
