RWE, a leading electricity producer, has received construction and environmental permits to build a 100MW green hydrogen electrolyser at Eemshaven, near the Magnum Power Station. This project is part of RWE’s collaboration with TotalEnergies on the 795MW OranjeWind offshore wind project in the Dutch North Sea.

The OranjeWind electrolyser will support onshore energy system integration, enhancing the use of intermittent renewable electricity by matching it with flexible demand. This project aims to strengthen the Eemshaven area as a renewable energy hub and contribute to green hydrogen production for industrial decarbonization.

TotalEnergies plans to allocate electricity from OranjeWind to support its own 350 MW electrolyser projects for green hydrogen production, aiding in decarbonizing its Northern European refineries.

Alongside the 100MW electrolyser at Magnum, RWE is also advancing a 50MW electrolyser project at the nearby Eems Power Station. Both projects await final investment decisions, contingent on the development of a national hydrogen infrastructure for efficient distribution.
