By Greentech Lead Team: Samsung
Electronics America announced that reseller partner NWN Corporation, a national
IT integrator, has been awarded the new printer contract by the State of
California Department of General Services.
The contract will provide new
Samsung printers and offer a recycling program for State agencies for the next
three to five years. Samsung and NWN developed a program that focused on
cost-savings and energy-efficient features, winning against 14 competing bids.
“At Samsung, we pride ourselves on
developing products and solutions that enhance their usability and performance.
We feel very fortunate to be able to work with NWN to help deliver on our
mutual promise of environmental and fiscal responsibility to the State of
California,” said Tim
Baxter, president of Samsung Electronics America. Â
Through this contract, Samsung http://www.samsung.com and
NWN will remove, recycle and replace old printers with new, more
energy-efficient Samsung printers for all state agencies.
The process requires the removal and
dissembling of all old printers. The majority of the raw materials will then be
recycled through a de-manufacturing process and sold back into the raw material
market.
All printers that will be installed
come with smart solutions, such as built-in enhanced security and solution
functionality, managed print services and Samsung’s Mobile Print App, which
allows for quick printing from a mobile device.
The contract is mandatory for State
Agencies and is available to all local governments, public educational
institutions and special districts throughout California.
Samsung and NWN will also implement
a system that tracks spent toner cartridges. Using a bar code and tracking
system, Samsung will be able to keep track of all cartridges in order to
encourage their recovery and reuse by tracking both the number of used
cartridges received as well as the disposition of the returns.
Samsung’s S.T.A.R. Program
reprocesses empty cartridges into their major usable component materials and to
be reused for other products. The S.T.A.R. Program also provides pre-addressed
postage for easy returns.
Recently, Samsung Electronics America, in association with New Media Middle School of America launched the
school’s curriculum featuring Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1.
