Team Europe Backs South Africa’s Green Hydrogen and Critical-Minerals Value Chains
Team Europe has announced new support for South Africa’s green-hydrogen and critical-minerals value chains, linking renewable electricity investment with industrial decarbonisation and clean-technology manufacturing. The initiative is aimed at helping South Africa convert its strong solar and wind resources into higher-value products while developing infrastructure and industries required for green hydrogen. South Africa is emerging as one of Africa’s leading prospective hydrogen markets because renewable generation can support electrolyser-based production for domestic industry and potential exports. Critical minerals are also essential for batteries, renewable equipment and electric mobility. The programme therefore connects clean-power development with industrial investment rather than treating renewable generation as an isolated sector, potentially attracting additional European capital and technology partnerships.
Arevon Advances 250 MW / 1,000 MWh Cormorant Battery Project in California
Arevon Energy has reached a major construction milestone at its 250 MW/1,000 MWh Cormorant Energy Storage Project in Daly City, California, which is scheduled to begin operations in 2027. The four-hour lithium iron phosphate BESS will be capable of supplying about 321,000 homes during peak demand. Arevon is developing, owning and operating the project with Primoris Services Corporation’s Renewables group handling construction. Cormorant has a long-term offtake agreement with MCE, which serves more than 1.8 million customers. The project is expected to generate over $73 million in property taxes, save 4.2 billion gallons of water and avoid around 174,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually.
Caelux and GREW Solar Sign 4 GW Perovskite Tandem Module Partnership in India
Caelux and GREW Solar have signed a five-year commercialisation agreement covering up to 4 GW of advanced perovskite-silicon solar modules in India. GREW will integrate Caelux’s Energy Producing Glass with its N-type TOPCon technology to manufacture Hybrid-Tandem modules targeting efficiencies above 29 percent, with commercial production planned for 2028. The agreement increases Caelux’s contracted global volume to 19 GW. GREW has expanded from a 1.2 GW production line in 2023 toward 11 GW of module and 8 GW of cell manufacturing capacity, while another 8 GW of wafer and ingot capacity is under construction. The partnership provides a potentially significant route to commercial-scale perovskite tandem manufacturing.
