SEG Solar Starts Commercial Production at 4 GW Texas HJT Module Factory
SEG Solar has begun commercial production at its 4 GW photovoltaic module factory in Tomball, Texas, producing the facility’s first heterojunction technology module. Tomball #1 is SEG Solar’s second US manufacturing facility and represents a major expansion of domestic solar supply-chain capacity. HJT technology combines crystalline silicon with thin-film layers to improve conversion efficiency and performance characteristics. Starting commercial output represents a substantially stronger milestone than factory construction because production equipment and manufacturing processes are now operational. The 4 GW annual capacity could supply modules for several gigawatts of US utility and distributed solar installations each year while supporting efforts to increase domestic production and reduce reliance on imported photovoltaic equipment.
Hansa Battery Sells Ready-to-Build 99 MW German BESS Project
German energy-storage developer Hansa Battery has sold a 99 MW ready-to-build standalone BESS project in Lower Saxony to an undisclosed renewable independent power producer. Reaching ready-to-build status means key development requirements have been substantially completed, allowing the buyer to move toward procurement, financing and construction. The transaction demonstrates continuing investor demand for German grid-scale storage as renewable generation expands and electricity-market volatility increases the commercial value of flexible assets. Batteries can provide frequency regulation, wholesale arbitrage and other grid-support services while helping integrate growing solar and wind generation. The 99 MW project also adds to a rapidly expanding German storage pipeline as developers move from household batteries toward much larger transmission-connected systems.
Germany Adds 1.69 GW of Solar Capacity in August 2026
Germany installed an estimated 1.69 GW of net new solar photovoltaic capacity during August 2026, extending rapid expansion of Europe’s largest solar market. The August addition was below the revised 1.85 GW installed in July, which remains Germany’s strongest month of 2026. The latest figures highlight the scale of monthly photovoltaic deployment even as new onshore-wind permitting showed weaker momentum. Germany requires sustained renewable capacity additions to replace fossil generation, support electrification and meet growing electricity demand from industry, heat pumps, electric vehicles and data infrastructure. Solar has become one of the fastest technologies to deploy, but the continuing capacity expansion is also increasing demand for batteries, transmission upgrades and other forms of grid flexibility.
