Sonnedix Secures $1.3 Billion for Chile Solar, Wind and Battery Portfolio
Sonnedix has secured $1.3 billion in financing to refinance a gigawatt-scale renewable-energy portfolio in Chile and fund additional battery storage projects. The package supports Sonnedix’s existing solar and wind assets while providing capital for new storage capacity that can improve dispatchability and capture higher-value electricity periods. Chile has become one of Latin America’s largest renewable markets but faces increasing solar curtailment, strengthening the business case for batteries. The financing is therefore significant both for Sonnedix’s expansion and for Chile’s transition from standalone renewable generation toward integrated solar, wind and storage portfolios. Tavion Raises €50 Million for 69 MW Polish Battery Storage Portfolio
Sweden-based Tavion has completed a €50 million, or about $58.2 million, funding initiative to finance construction of three battery energy storage projects in Poland with combined capacity of 69 MW. Tavion is a newly launched European BESS developer and operator, and the transaction gives the company capital to move its first Polish portfolio toward construction. Poland is emerging as an important storage market as coal generation declines and increasing wind and solar penetration creates demand for balancing and ancillary services. The financing represents a substantive execution milestone rather than an early-stage development announcement, with the capital specifically earmarked for construction of the three projects.
Vattenfall Approves 1 GWh Battery Storage Project in Germany
Vattenfall has decided to proceed with a new battery energy storage project in Germany offering around 1 GWh of storage capacity. The investment represents a major expansion of Vattenfall’s flexible-generation portfolio and reflects the rapidly growing need for large batteries in Germany as wind and solar capacity rises. A 1 GWh system can shift substantial volumes of renewable electricity from periods of high generation into evening peaks or other high-demand periods while also supporting frequency regulation and grid services. The final investment decision is the key new milestone, moving the project from development into implementation. Large batteries are becoming increasingly important in Germany as congestion, negative-price periods and renewable curtailment become more frequent.
