Certification Milestone Achieved for Japan’s 315 MW Offshore Wind Project
The 315 MW offshore wind project off the coast of Oga City, Katagami City and Akita City in Japan has secured a major milestone by receiving a Certificate of Conformity from Bureau Veritas Japan. The certification confirms compliance with Japan’s Electricity Business Act and validates the project’s design, including site conditions, integrated load analysis and support structures. Developed by a consortium led by JERA Co., Inc., the project will deploy 21 Vestas V236-15.0 MW turbines, becoming Japan’s first fixed-bottom offshore wind farm using turbines above 10 MW and the world’s first 15 MW-class fixed-bottom offshore wind project designed with seismic considerations. Commercial operations are scheduled to commence in June 2028, supporting Japan’s offshore wind expansion and renewable energy targets.
Jivo Energy Commissions Malawi’s First 20 MW Grid-Forming Battery Storage System
Jivo Energy has commenced commercial operations of Malawi’s first grid-forming utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), a 20 MW/40 MWh facility located at the Kanengo Substation in Lilongwe. Delivered as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, Jivo Energy developed the project in partnership with the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) and the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP). Officially commissioned by Energy Minister Dr. Jean Mathanga, the battery system will enhance grid stability, integrate more renewable energy, unlock approximately 100 MW of constrained renewable generation, reduce reliance on diesel backup generation, and improve electricity access and reliability across Malawi.
Push Power Secures Consent for UK Solar-Plus-Storage Project
Push Power has secured planning consent for the Kentishes Solar Farm, a utility-scale solar photovoltaic project with a co-located battery energy storage system (BESS) in the United Kingdom. The approval allows the company to advance the project toward construction, supporting the delivery of low-carbon electricity while enhancing grid flexibility through integrated battery storage. The solar-plus-storage development is designed to increase renewable energy generation, improve electricity network resilience and provide energy balancing services during periods of peak demand. The project strengthens Push Power’s renewable energy development portfolio and contributes to the UK’s Clean Power 2030 ambitions by accelerating the deployment of utility-scale solar and energy storage infrastructure needed to support the country’s transition to a net-zero electricity system.
