Today’s renewable energy news includes updates from RES, DESRI, PPC, METLEN, among others.
RES Opens Houston Renewables Warehouse to Strengthen U.S. Solar and BESS Operations
Renewable Energy Systems (RES) has opened a warehouse and logistics facility in Houston, Texas, to support its expanding U.S. solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS) operations and maintenance business. The innovative hub will improve supply-chain resilience by centralizing spare parts, tools, inventory management, and technical support for renewable energy assets across North America. RES said the facility will help customers benefit from faster equipment availability, reduced downtime, improved operational efficiency, and more reliable clean energy services amid rising demand for solar and energy storage projects. Future expansion plans include technical training, equipment repair, and refurbishment services to enhance long-term customer support. The investment aligns with rapid U.S. renewable growth projections, with major utility-scale solar and battery storage additions expected in 2026, particularly in Texas, reinforcing RES’s commitment to sustainable energy infrastructure and advanced renewable operations.
DESRI Begins Construction of 270MW Solar and 180MW Battery Storage Projects in New Mexico
DESRI and investment partner Tierra Adentro Growth Capital have started construction on the Foxtail Flats and Four Mile Mesa solar-plus-storage projects in San Juan County, New Mexico, advancing large-scale clean energy deployment in the US. The innovative developments combine 270MW of solar generation with 180MW of battery energy storage systems, improving grid reliability and enabling efficient renewable energy delivery during peak demand periods. Built on land owned by the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, the projects highlight strong collaboration between renewable developers, local communities, utilities, and technology partners. Customer-focused benefits include enhanced energy security, lower carbon emissions, reliable electricity supply, and support for growing data center demand, including Meta’s operations. The projects are expected to create around 600 construction jobs while accelerating New Mexico’s energy transition through advanced solar-plus-storage infrastructure and long-term sustainable economic growth.
European Commission Approves PPC and METLEN Battery Storage Joint Venture
The European Commission has approved a strategic joint venture between Greek energy companies PPC Group and METLEN Energy & Metals to develop large-scale battery energy storage projects across Bulgaria, Italy, and Romania. The partnership will focus on building up to 1.5GW/3GWh of advanced battery energy storage systems using innovative liquid-cooled lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology designed to improve operational safety, grid stability, and renewable energy integration. The customer-focused initiative will help optimize solar and wind power usage by storing surplus electricity and delivering reliable clean energy during peak demand periods. The European Commission concluded the venture would not raise competition concerns, supporting Europe’s wider clean energy transition and energy security goals. The collaboration also strengthens regional renewable infrastructure, accelerates decarbonization efforts, and enhances long-term sustainable energy reliability across Southeast Europe.
