Enel Green Power has secured 114 MW of wind energy capacity to be established in north-eastern Brazil.

The new project is estimated to cost around $250 million investment.

Enel will sign 20-year contracts with a pool of Brazilian electricity distribution companies to supply the produced power, under the A-5 Brazilian public auction.

The wind farm is named Morro do Chapéu, which will be built in Bahia State.

The company already owns around 400 MW of wind projects in operation or under construction and over 254 MW of photovoltaic project awarded recently.

The project will have an expected 50 percent average load factor, helping to generate 4,500 hours of energy production per year, totaling around 500 GW.

This clean generation will avoid over 150,000 tons of carbon emissions.

This project has resulted soon after receiving the award for 344 MW of wind and photovoltaic capacity from the previous Brazilian public tender, stated, Francesco Venturini, CEO, Enel Green Power.

Specifically, this new project will add further 114 MW to 490 MW of wind capacity that Enel Green Power has already won in Brazil in previous public tenders since 2010, another step forward in the company’s growth strategy in Latin America, added Venturini.

Brazil is among the world leaders in renewable energy generation due to its 98 GW of installed renewable capacity, which account for roughly 85 percent of the country’s total installed capacity.
