Missouri American Water buys Meramec Sewer Company, adds 540 new wastewater customers

Greentech Lead America:Missouri American Water has acquired the Meramec Sewer Company, serving customers in Fenton, Mo.The system adds about 540 new wastewater customers to the company’s customer base.

The Missouri Public Service Commission (MoPSC) approved the application for ownership on February 20, 2013.

Missouri American Water, a subsidiary of American Water, is the largest investor-owned water utility in the state, providing high-quality and reliable water and/or wastewater  services to approximately 1.5 million people

Most of the new customers currently receive their water service from Missouri American Water.

“The acquisition of this system gives these customers access to full-time wastewater professionals and customer service that is available 24/7,” said Tena Hale-Rush, Wastewater Operations Manager.

The system was purchased for approximately $500,000.

Founded in 1886, American Water is the largest publicly traded U.S. water and wastewater utility company. With headquarters in Voorhees, N.J., the company employs approximately 6,700 dedicated professionals who provide drinking water, wastewater and other related services to an estimated 14 million people in more than 30 states and parts of Canada.
