Greentech Lead Europe: AMEC, an engineering and project
management company, has been selected to provide waste treatment services to
the Bohunice nuclear power plant in Slovakia.
As per the agreement, AMEC will apply its specialist
technology to retrieve and treat the 600 cubic metres of waste at the two VVER
(Vodo-Vodyanoi Energetichesky Reactor) 440 reactors
at the plant, which ceased operation in 2008 and 2010, respectively.
The three year contract will be executed from AMEC’s
Slovakian office in Trnava which has developed this innovative technology. AMEC
believes this contract will help further grow their business in Slovakia.
“We are delighted to be able to support Bohunice in this
critical area of their decommissioning program. The contract is a recognition
of the leading capabilities we have developed in waste management techniques.
It builds on similar successful work we are executing in the Czech Republic and
also expands our decommissioning support to Bohunice,” said Clive White, vice
president of AMEC’s Power & Process Europe business.
“Importantly it helps us to further grow our business in
Slovakia and thereby secure highly skilled employment. Together with other
major decommissioning, waste management, new build and operational support
contracts, this further helps to solidify AMEC’s position as a leading nuclear
services provider for customers across the globe,” White added.
