Greentech Lead America: Itron announced that Aguas de Valencia, a private water utility serving more than 3.5 million residents mainly in Valencia, Catalonia, Aragón and Northern Spain, has selected Itron as part of modernization of its water metering infrastructure.

The water utility will begin the deployment of Itron’s water AMI solution, including 100,000 water meters, 100,000 communication modules, fixed network infrastructure and software, which will be installed over the next five years.

The utility has successfully completed a 5,000-endpoint pilot of Itron’s advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) solution which led to their decision to move forward with Itron for a full deployment.

Itron’s AMI solution has helped Aguas de Valencia modernize its metering infrastructure and create higher levels of service. With the ability to collect and utilize detailed water data, the utility can better analyze its operations and monitor distribution system integrity to become more efficient and deliver more value to its customers.

“Testing Itron’s AMI solution has given Aguas de Valencia the opportunity to validate the system’s performance,” said Juan José Pérez Palomar, chief operating officer, Aguas de Valencia. “We sought an easy-to-manage, highly efficient solution with a low level of maintenance, and we got that with Itron’s AMI solution. We look forward to realizing benefits more broadly as we expand our deployment.”

“Itron’s AMI solution empowers utilities to oversee and manage the delivery and usage of water more effectively and efficiently than ever before,” said Pascal Michaudel, Southern and Western Europe sales director for water at Itron. “Aguas de Valencia has already begun to realize these benefits and will soon gain greater value with their expanded deployment.”

Recently Itron announced it has been selected by Las Vegas Valley Water District (LVVWD), a not-for-profit agency that provides water to more than 1 million residents and 35 million annual visitors in Southern Nevada. Itron will provide its automated metering solution to improve operational efficiency and streamline meter reading at LVVWD.
