Digby Port Days is planning to promote the town as Nova Scotia’s Renewable Energy Port, reports The Chronicle Herald.

Digby is Nova Scotia’s nearest deep water port for activities like tidal energy initiative taking place in the Bay of Fundy.

An event held this week will have a theme that gives participants an idea of how Digby is planning to manage businesses, developers and promoters of tidal energy.

The event to be held on 10th and 11th of September by the Digby Harbour Port Association, Digby Port Days is coordinated by the Digby Area Board of Trade.

A symposium will be held at the Digby Pines Golf Resort and Spa with government and industry leader’s participation, including provincial Energy Minister Andrew Younger and West Nova MP Greg Kerr.

Speakers from Fundy Tidal, Bay Ferries, the Irish company OpenHydro and the Fundy Ocean Research Centre of Excellence are also scheduled.

Aaron Annable, Canada’s acting consul general in Boston, is to speak during the reception ceremony.

Prospects for the Port of Digby haven’t been this promising for at least half a century, said, Peter MacLellan, president, Digby Area Board of Trade.

A new ferry will replace Princess of Acadia, which has served the Digby-Saint John, run for more than 40 years. A new ship would benefit commercial transportation, as well as ensure a tourism link.

Digby’s emergence as one of Atlantic Canada’s top renewable energy service centers will improve the local economy.
