Six solar farms in Thailand powered by REC solar panels and with a production capacity of 72 MW have started operations.
The plants are owned and operated by Yanhee EGCO Holding located in NakhonPathom and SuphanBuri provinces. The 292, 608 REC peak energy solar panels will supply power for 40,000 Thai homes. This project will considerably cut down around 59,000 metric tons of green gas emission every year.
The 103 GWh of annually produced electricity will be sold to Thailand’s Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA).
Chiang Rai power plant in Northern Thailand with 9.5 MW capacity was the first in the country to use REC solar panels. Now with additional six solar projects, total REC installation will be of 86MW in Thailand.
EGCO company officials stated that choice of REC panels was based on high reliability and efficiency of the product with assured warranty on quality, reported the news agency.
Thailand has set a solar capacity target of 3 GW to be achieved by 2021 together with a general renewable energy target of 25 percent.
