Itron has been selected by Clean Power Finance (CPF), a residential solar financing company, to provide metering solution for residential solar installations across North America.

Under this agreement, CPF will use Itron’s solar monitoring solution to monitor and sub-meter the energy production of the residential solar systems CPF manages on behalf of investors, the company said.

Itron  solar monitoring solution includes Itron’s solar meter embedded with cellular communications and Itron Managed Services for managing and monitoring of solar power generation. They provide accurate, reliable way to measure and manage solar production data at residences that are distributed across a wide geographic area, the company said.

Itron claims that the solution will reduce installation time for CPF’s channel partners, improve the data collection process and ultimately lower costs while improving operational efficiency for the entire system.

Itron began shipping solar meters to CPF partners in December for implementation across North America. The revenue-grade solar meters are ideal for accurately monitoring the production of residential and commercial solar systems.

“The efficiency and simplicity of Itron’s solar monitoring solution makes it a preferred technology for CPF. The solution helps our customers reduce installation times and improve monitoring accuracy,” said Steve Olszewski, senior vice president of operations at CPF.

Recently Itron was also selected by FirstEnergy, one of the largest investor-owned utilities in the U.S, to deploy smart grid  solution across its four Pennsylvania-based utilities.

Under this contract FirstEnergy will deploy Itron’s OpenWay smart grid solution across its four utilities including Metropolitan Edison, Pennsylvania Electric, Pennsylvania Power and West Penn Power.
