Smart metering solutions provider Itron  announced that Southern Connecticut Gas Company (SCG) has selected the company to modernize and manage its metering system.

Itron’s smart meter solutions will help SCG optimize the delivery of natural gas, improve customer service and streamline business operations. Specifically SCG will utilize Itron TOTAL AMI to run, manage and maintain their gas meter reading system for 20 years.

The gas advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) solution, combined with analytics, will give SCG more insight into its assets, more control over its system and the option to offer more services to its customers.

The comprehensive solution will deliver insight needed for conservation and offer cost savings and predictability, the company said.

Itron will be responsible for the installation and maintenance of the entire system, including 220,000 Itron gas communication modules and associated fixed-network infrastructure. Installation is expected to begin in mid-2014 with completion by the end of 2015.

Itron’s team will manage all aspects of SCG’s data collection system and operations, offloading the burden of day-to-day management tasks and freeing utility staff to focus on gaining more benefits and capabilities from their system.

“Our expanding relationship with SCG is a testament to Itron’s commitment to our customers and their success. We’ve extended value beyond the meter for many of our customers by allowing them to save money and resources with an end-to-end managed service solution,” said Carl Porter, vice president of sales, marketing and delivery for Gas North America at Itron.
