Recurrent Energy says Liberty Solar’s Houston project reaches commercial operation

Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar, announced that Liberty Solar, a 134 MW (100 MWac) solar project near Houston, Texas, has reached commercial operation.

Situated in Liberty County, Texas, around 50 miles northeast of Houston, the project can power approximately 15,000 homes annually.

Companies like Autodesk, Biogen, EMD Electronics (Merck KGaA), and Wayfair are customers for the project, reflecting corporate investment in renewable energy.

Mark Stover of the Texas Solar Power Association emphasized the project’s role in meeting Texas’s rising electricity demands with clean, reliable power.

Kai Beckmann highlighted the importance of renewable energy for semiconductor industry advancements.

Kathleen Woodward underscored Biogen’s commitment to renewable energy since 2014 to support economic growth and public health.

Joe Speicher noted Autodesk’s aim for 100 percent renewable energy sourcing and commitment to sustainability.

Recurrent Energy will retain long-term ownership and operation of the Liberty Solar project.

Financial support for the project includes a construction loan from Rabobank, Nord LB, and U.S. Bancorp Impact Finance, which also provided $80 million in tax equity.
