GE Vernova’s Grid Solutions business (GE) has announced the acquisition of orders from Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL). These orders entail the supply of 765 kV Shunt Reactors for various transmission system projects across India, particularly in regions like Rajasthan and Karnataka, as part of PGCIL’s initiatives to integrate renewable energy sources into the national grid.
Eric Chaussin, Power Transmission Business Leader of Grid Solutions at GE Vernova, emphasized the company’s dedication to supporting India’s renewable energy ambitions and fortifying its electricity transmission networks.
The awarded contracts highlight GE Vernova’s technical prowess in designing and manufacturing oil-filled reactors, including the critical 765 kV shunt reactors, which play a pivotal role in enhancing grid stability and efficiency, particularly amidst the integration of large-scale renewable energy projects.
The execution of these orders will be facilitated through GE T&D India, the listed entity of GE Vernova’s Grid Solutions business in India. GE T&D India will oversee the complete equipment package, including design, engineering, manufacturing, testing, erection, and commissioning of the 765 kV class reactors at designated transmission substation sites.
Manufacturing of these reactors will take place at GE T&D India’s Vadodara plant, with delivery scheduled for the financial year 2025-26.
Sandeep Zanzaria, MD & CEO of GE T&D India, highlighted GE T&D India’s track record in manufacturing and supplying over 600 transformers and reactors of 765 kV class, solidifying its position as a leading manufacturer of such equipment in India.
India’s ambitious renewable energy targets, aiming for 50 percent of power generation capacity from non-fossil sources by 2030, alongside the goal of 500 GW non-fossil capacity by the same year, emphasize the criticality of robust transmission infrastructure.
Shunt reactors play a vital role in maintaining voltage levels and enhancing grid stability, ensuring reliable electricity supply to homes and businesses amidst the country’s renewable energy transition.
