Pattern Energy, CEMEX Energia join hands for 1 GW clean power projects in Mexico

Pattern Energy has entered into a joint venture with CEMEX Energia for developing 1,000 MW of renewable energy projects throughout Mexico over the next five years.

Pattern Energy maintains a list of identified ROFO projects, which represents a portion of Pattern Development’s 4,500 MW pipelines of development projects, subject to Pattern Energy’s right of first offer.

Last month, Amazon has signed a 13-year partnership with Pattern Energy for the construction and operation of a 150 MW wind farm.

A week ago, Pattern Energy entered into a 25-year power purchase agreement with Hydro-Québec for 147 MW Mont Sainte-Marguerite wind project.

By entering into a JV with Renewable Energy Systems Canada (RES Canada), Pattern Energy has acquired 100 percent of the project by purchasing RES Canada’s stake.

In Nov 2014, Pattern Energy has formed joint venture partnership with Henvey Inlet First Nation to jointly develop, own and operate the 300 MW Henvey Inlet Wind project, Ontario.

Pattern Energy has its headquarters in Houston and the company team has gained an experience in developing over 1,000 MW of wind projects including California, New Mexico and Texas.

Cemex Energia is a building materials company based in Mexico and the US. Its renewables division jointly developed the 250 MW Eurus cluster in Oaxaca, southern Mexico, with Acciona.

The Mexican government expects high increases in solar and wind power capacity by 2018.

According to estimates, solar will increase from 54.6 MW in 2012 to 627.5 MW in 2018, while wind will reach 8,922 MW from its current 1,332 MW in the same period.

Mexico has set the target to generate 35 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2024, including large hydroelectric generators.
