Nel Wins $12 Million US Electrolyser Contract for Containerised Hydrogen Production

Norwegian hydrogen technology manufacturer Nel has secured an order valued at approximately $12 million from an undisclosed US-based global technology company. The contract covers multiple containerised proton exchange membrane electrolyser systems and related services. Nel’s US subsidiary will supply equipment from its MC-series electrolyser platform, designed for modular, on-site hydrogen production. Electrolyser stacks will be manufactured at the company’s facility in Wallingford, Connecticut, with deliveries scheduled for 2027. The agreement includes associated technical services and equipment integration. Nel separately announced cooperation with Rheinmetall on decentralised synthetic fuel production technology, although that arrangement is not part of the $12 million contract. The customer did not disclose the hydrogen project’s location, production capacity or investment value.

Telangana Launches 5,800 MW Renewable Energy Procurement with 8,000 MWh Battery Storage

India’s Telangana government has initiated renewable-energy procurement covering 5,800 MW of generation and contracted supply capacity, supported by large-scale battery storage. The programme includes 3,000 MW of solar generation paired with 6,000 MWh of batteries, 800 MW of wind power, and 2,000 MW of round-the-clock renewable electricity. A separate procurement covers 2,000 MWh of firm and dispatchable battery storage. Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation and Telangana Power Generation Corporation are coordinating the tenders. Solar, wind and round-the-clock electricity contracts are expected to run for 25 years, while the standalone storage procurement covers 15 years. The state reported peak electricity demand approaching 19,900 MW. Developers will compete through tariff-based bidding.

China Adds 159 GW Renewable Capacity in Eight Months as Installed Base Reaches 2.496 TW

China reported 2.496 TW of installed renewable-energy capacity at the end of August 2026, representing 60.8 percent of total national electricity generation capacity. Renewable installations increased by 159 GW during January–August, accounting for 71.6 percent of all newly installed power capacity. Wind and solar installations together reached 1.992 TW, including approximately 1.297 TW of solar and 693 GW of wind. Renewable sources generated 2.77 trillion kWh of electricity, representing 41.6 percent of national generation during the period. Wind and solar together generated approximately 1.71 trillion kWh. The National Energy Administration called for continued development of large renewable projects, stronger transmission infrastructure and improvements to electricity market mechanisms.
