Today’s renewable energy news includes announcements from PowerBank, StarCharge, Akaysha, among others.
PowerBank Wins 21 MW Solar Operations Contract from Honeywell for Three New York Community Projects
PowerBank has secured a 21-megawatt (MW) operations and maintenance (O&M) agreement with Honeywell for three community solar projects in New York State, extending its role beyond project development and construction into long-term asset management. The portfolio includes the SB 13-1, SB 13-2 and SB-14 solar projects, following the successful commercial operation of SB 13-2. PowerBank previously sold the projects to Honeywell in September 2023 under a combined US$41 million transaction and continued as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor. The company has now developed and built more than 100 MW of clean energy projects across North America and maintains a development pipeline exceeding 1 gigawatt (GW), positioning itself to support growing demand for community solar, AI-driven power infrastructure and modular data centers.
StarCharge Secures 3.5 GWh of Global Energy Storage Agreements
StarCharge Secures 3.5 GWh Energy Storage Deals at EES Europe to Accelerate Global Expansion
StarCharge has signed strategic energy storage agreements totaling nearly 3.5 GWh during The Smarter E Europe exhibition in Munich, strengthening its international expansion across Latvia, Moldova, and other global markets. The agreements with energy partners including AGE Energy and VBG cover the deployment of StarCharge’s proprietary energy storage systems (ESS) and turnkey solutions designed to improve renewable energy integration, support grid peak shaving, and enhance power system stability. The company offers a full-stack technology portfolio spanning battery packs, PCS, BMS, EMS, system integration, and digital energy management platforms with advanced safety and thermal management features. In Europe alone, StarCharge is maintaining quarterly energy storage shipments of approximately 150 MWh, while expanding localized service, delivery, and operations networks across Europe, Asia-Pacific, and South America.
Akaysha’s 415-MW Orana Battery Begins Commercial Operations in Australia
Akaysha Energy has officially commenced commercial operations of its Orana Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in New South Wales. With a capacity of 415 MW / 1,660 MWh, the project is one of Australia’s largest four-hour battery storage facilities and increases Akaysha’s operational energy storage portfolio to more than 4 GWh. Located within the Central West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ), which is expected to host around 3 GW of new wind and solar generation, the battery will play a critical role in integrating renewable energy into the grid. A key innovation is its large-scale four-hour storage capability, supported by 448 Tesla Megapacks, enabling the system to store excess renewable energy and dispatch it during periods of peak demand. The project enhances grid reliability, reduces renewable energy curtailment, and strengthens energy security by providing flexible power when needed. It also includes a long-term commercial structure featuring a 12-year virtual tolling agreement with EnergyAustralia, improving revenue certainty and supporting large-scale energy storage investment.
