Mercedes-Benz has announced its plans to launch Charging Hubs in key cities around the world, as part of the company’s ambitious electrification strategy. The Charging Hubs, set to go live in Atlanta (USA), Chengdu (China), and Mannheim (Germany) starting October, signify a significant step towards establishing a robust global charging network.

The automaker aims to enhance its charging infrastructure with over 2,000 high-power charging points by the end of 2024. Looking ahead, the long-term vision is to establish more than 2,000 Charging Hubs, equipped with over 10,000 charging points, by the close of the decade.

The charging stations will vary in charging rate based on regional standards, providing up to 400 kW charging through systems like CCS1, CCS2, NACS, and GB/T. Intelligent charging management will ensure each vehicle charges at its maximum power capacity, reducing overall charging time for users.

Mercedes-Benz’s Charging Hubs will be strategically positioned in main traffic areas and select dealerships, offering convenience to electric vehicle owners. The stations will also offer supplementary amenities such as refreshments, snacks, and restroom facilities. Security will be maintained through surveillance cameras at these locations.

Selected sites will feature intelligent light poles, not only serving as illumination sources but also providing real-time information about charging point availability and vehicle charging status. Additionally, canopies at designated Charging Hubs will offer weather protection.

The charging network is designed to be accessible to drivers of all car brands. However, Mercedes-Benz customers will enjoy special privileges, including the ability to reserve charging points using the Mercedes-Benz me Charge service, thereby minimizing wait times. This network will seamlessly integrate with the existing global charging infrastructure, which already boasts over 1.3 million charging points.

To simplify the charging experience, Mercedes-Benz’s Navigation with Electric Intelligence will incorporate the charging stations directly into route planning. Additional features, such as Plug & Charge, will further enhance user convenience by automating the charging and payment process as soon as the charging cable is connected.

As part of its commitment to environmental sustainability, Mercedes-Benz will power its charging network with 100% renewable electricity. This aligns with the company’s broader sustainable business strategy, Ambition 2039. Some Charging Hubs will even utilize solar panels to generate electricity for their own operations.

Mercedes-Benz’s proactive approach to electrification and the creation of a global charging network solidify the brand’s dedication to shaping a greener automotive future. In 2022, Mercedes-Benz Mobility facilitated financing or leasing for nearly half of the group’s vehicles sold worldwide, amounting to a contract volume of €132.4 billion. This segment reported sales of €27 billion and achieved an EBIT adjusted of €2.4 billion.
