Volkswagen reported 438,463 battery electric vehicle (BEV) deliveries worldwide in the first half of 2026, down 5.8 percent from 465,573 units a year earlier, as weakness in North America and China offset strong demand in Europe.
BEVs of Volkswagen represented 10.6 percent of the Group’s total deliveries, unchanged from the previous year, while plug-in hybrid and extended-range electric vehicle (PHEV/EREV) deliveries jumped 27.4 percent to 245,507 units from 192,668 units. Combined electrified vehicle deliveries increased 3.9 percent, lifting their share of total deliveries to 16.6 percent from 14.9 percent.
Western Europe remained Volkswagen’s strongest electric vehicle market, accounting for 365,727 BEV deliveries, representing more than 80 percent of the Group’s global electric vehicle sales. BEV deliveries in Western Europe rose 8.1 percent, while electric vehicles accounted for 20.9 percent of regional deliveries, up from 19.9 percent a year earlier.
Volkswagen also reported a 27.6 percent increase in incoming orders for all-electric models across Western Europe, highlighting continued consumer demand for its expanding EV portfolio.
Germany delivered another strong performance, with 136,062 BEVs sold during the first six months of 2026, an increase of 16.4 percent year-on-year. Electric vehicles represented 21.8 percent of Volkswagen’s total deliveries in Germany, up from 19.2 percent in the previous year. The company said the German market experienced a very strong increase in demand for all-electric vehicles, while demand for conventional vehicles declined.
North America experienced a sharp slowdown in electric vehicle demand. Volkswagen’s BEV deliveries in the region plunged 65.0 percent to 12,990 units, reducing the EV share of regional deliveries to 2.9 percent from 8.0 percent.
In the United States, BEV deliveries fell even further by 68.8 percent to 9,762 units, with electric vehicles accounting for 3.4 percent of total deliveries versus 10.0 percent a year earlier. The company attributed the decline primarily to the expiration of U.S. state electric vehicle subsidies and challenging market conditions.
Asia-Pacific also remained under pressure. Volkswagen delivered 43,814 BEVs across the region, down 39.7 percent, with electric vehicles representing 3.9 percent of regional deliveries compared with 4.9 percent a year earlier.
In China, Volkswagen Group’s largest market, BEV deliveries dropped 47.9 percent to 30,917 units, reducing the EV share of total deliveries to 3.2 percent from 4.5 percent amid intense competition and a weaker passenger vehicle market.
Volkswagen said its best-selling electric models during the first half included the Volkswagen ID.4, Volkswagen ID.3, Škoda Elroq, Škoda Enyaq, CUPRA Born, CUPRA Tavascan, Volkswagen ID. Buzz, Audi Q4 e-tron, Audi Q6 e-tron, and the Porsche Macan, demonstrating broad demand across its multi-brand electric vehicle portfolio despite challenging global market conditions.
