Econergy Connects 59 MW Iancu Jianu Solar Farm in Romania

Econergy Renewable Energy has connected its 59 MW Iancu Jianu solar farm in Olt County, Romania, marking another milestone in the company’s expanding Romanian renewable-energy portfolio. The project was developed with EUR 28 million in financing from Kommunalkredit Austria, including approximately EUR 26 million for construction costs and repayment of existing owner loans, with the remainder allocated to VAT expenses. The solar farm strengthens Econergy’s Romanian operations, where the company has approximately 2.1 GW of photovoltaic and wind projects in development and operation. Emiliano Bellini reported the project’s grid connection milestone, while Javier Flamarique, Econergy’s Director of Project Finance, has highlighted the company’s strategy of securing long-term PPAs for its Romanian portfolio.

Scatec Completes 1.1 GW Obelisk Solar and Storage Project in Egypt

Scatec ASA has completed the 1.1 GW Obelisk solar and battery storage project in Nagaa Hammadi, Egypt, marking a major milestone for the country’s renewable-energy expansion. The project comprises 1,125 MWp of solar PV capacity and a 100 MW/200 MWh BESS, developed in two phases: 561 MW of solar plus the full battery system in the first phase and 564 MW in the second. The facility is expected to generate more than 3,000 GWh of clean electricity annually and avoid up to 1.25 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. Electricity will be supplied to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) under a 25-year USD-denominated PPA. Terje Pilskog, CEO of Scatec, highlighted the project’s rapid execution and contribution to Egypt’s energy-security and renewable-energy ambitions.

Danske Commodities to Optimise 40 MWh Battery at Agersted Solar Park

European Energy has selected Danske Commodities as optimisation partner for the Agersted Energy Park in Bronderslev Municipality, Denmark. The co-located facility combines a 30 MWp solar park with a 10 MW/40 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The solar park has operated since 2021, while the battery has now been integrated directly into the site, enabling surplus solar electricity to be stored and dispatched when demand and market prices are higher. Danske Commodities will act as Balance Responsible Party (BRP) and Balancing Service Provider (BSP) for the combined asset, using its automated trading platform across relevant energy markets. Gregor McDonald, VP and Head of Energy Trading and PPA at European Energy, highlighted the flexibility benefits, while Dirk Kaiser, Head of Renewables Business Development at Danske Commodities, emphasised the company’s growing optimisation portfolio.
