Tata Power has commissioned a 24-megawatt wind farm at Rojmal in Gujarat, India. The farm powered by Inox Wind turbines is expected to generate about 52 million units a year.

And the generated power is to be purchased by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL). The power purchase agreement is governed by the Gujarat Wind Policy of 2013, according to a company statement.

The Rojmal farm has been envisaged to accommodate total capacity of 54 megawatts in due course. Tata Power is operating the project through its subsidiary Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL).

With the commissioning of the wind farm, the company has expanded its wind energy portfolio to 511 megawatts.

According to a report, Tata Power currently has total installed capacity of 8,750 MW. Of this capacity, 1,383 megawatts have been contributed by clean and renewable energy projects.

Anil Sardana, the MD and CEO of Tata Power, said the new project was part of the company’s endeavor to generate 20-25 percent of its total generation capacity from clean energy sources.

“The clean energy project is in line with our core business value of sustainable growth, and will further enhance and increase our clean energy footprint,” Sardana said.

Six renewable energy projects of Tata Power are registered under the Clean Development Mechanism programme of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

These are: 50.4-MW wind project at Gadag, Karnataka; 50.4-MW wind project at Khandke, Maharashtra; 50.4-MW wind project at Samana, Gujarat; 39.2-MW wind project at Bhogat, Gujarat; 25-MW solar project at Mithapur, Gujarat; and 187-MW Shuakhevi hydroproject in Georgia.

The company also has wind farms in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.
