India-based Suzlon Energy Ltd’s UK subsidiary Senvion Monday said it has signed contracts with four UK firms for supplying turbines for production of 63.5 MW of electricity which will power 38,000 homes in Britain.

Senvion has also signed service and maintenance contracts with three of the companies engaged in generation of wind electricity.

“We are delighted to be signing a further four turbine contracts in the UK including our first with RES,” company CEO Andreas Nauen said.

Wind turbine maker Senvion will be supplying the equipment to the four UK-based wind firms – Penmanshiel developed by RES, Reaps Moss, New Albion and Watford Lodge.

According to the company, pre-construction has already started in Penmanshiel and New Albion while the process is due to start in summer next year for Reaps Moss and Watford Lodge.

Senvion introduced its multi-megawatt offshore turbines 10 years ago and has installed more than 130 such turbines offshore.

Early December, the company said it was conducting a techno-commercial feasibility study for an offshore wind power project in Gujarat which, if successful, will be the country’s first such project.
