RWE has strengthened its renewable energy footprint in France with the official inauguration of three new onshore wind farms in the Hauts-de-France and Grand Est regions, adding a combined installed capacity of 68.8 megawatts (MW) to the country’s clean energy network.
The newly inaugurated projects include the Chemin de Châlons wind farm in the Marne department, the Catillon-Fumechon wind farm in the Oise department, and the Catésis wind farm in the Nord department. Together, the three wind farms are expected to generate enough renewable electricity to power approximately 38,000 households annually.
All three facilities are equipped with Siemens SG132 wind turbines rated at slightly more than 3 MW each. The projects were initially developed between 2015 and 2016, with construction taking place from 2023 to 2025. The wind farms were progressively commissioned between 2023 and 2026 before their official inauguration in June 2026.
The Chemin de Châlons wind farm, located across the municipalities of Songy, Saint-Martin-aux-Champs and Cheppes-la-Prairie in the Marne department, was built in two phases and consists of six turbines. The project has a total installed capacity of 18 MW and can supply renewable electricity to nearly 7,600 households.
In the Oise department, the Catillon-Fumechon wind farm features six Siemens SG132 turbines with a capacity of 3.6 MW each, delivering a total installed capacity of 21.6 MW. Commissioned in 2025, the facility is expected to meet the electricity needs of around 12,600 households.
The largest of the three projects is the Catésis wind farm in the Nord department. Located across the municipalities of Troisvilles and Reumont, the wind farm comprises eight Siemens SG132 turbines rated at 3.65 MW each, resulting in a total capacity of 29.2 MW. The project will provide renewable electricity for approximately 18,000 households.
RWE highlighted that the projects are not only contributing to France’s clean energy transition but are also delivering direct benefits to local communities. Through an endowment fund established in 2025 for the municipalities surrounding the Catillon-Fumechon and Catésis wind farms, RWE allocates €2,000 per installed megawatt annually to support local public-interest initiatives.
The funding supports projects focused on biodiversity conservation, cultural heritage, energy transition, and climate awareness. Initiatives financed near the Catillon-Fumechon wind farm include the purchase of an electric car-sharing vehicle, support for household energy renovation projects, and local cultural programs. Around the Catésis wind farm, the fund is helping finance photovoltaic panel installations on municipal buildings, energy-efficiency renovations, and biodiversity conservation projects led by regional environmental organizations.
