Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa has tested a prototype of its G114-2.5 MW turbine to produce power at a company-owned plant in Spain.

With successful testing of the prototype the company would go ahead with validating and certifying the G114-2.5 MW machine. The company has stated that it expects to obtain type certification during the fourth quarter.

According to Gamesa, assembly of the turbine prototype proved to be a logistics challenge. Its components were made at different production units across Spain and had to be transported to one site for assembly. The 56 meter blades were transported in one piece, the company notes.

The company states that it has already signed several orders for the new type of turbine.

The first order placed by international investor group and infrastructure manager John Laing, will require installation of six G114-2.5 MW turbines at the Rammeldalsberget wind farm in Sweden.

“The turbines will be equipped with MaxPower technology, designed to boost nominal capacity from 2.5 MW to 2.625 MW. The second, placed by developers EDF and Eneco, is for the installation of 17.5 MW at the Berloz wind farm in Belgium. And the last and most recently placed order will entail the installation of 94 G114-2.5 MW turbines for Scottish Power at the Kilgallioch complex,” the company has stated.
