Ecosse Subsea Systems grabs seabed clearance contract

Ecosse Subsea Systems (ESS) has acquired a seabed clearance contract from DONG Energy for a wind farm construction project.

Ecosse Subsea will be responsible for clearing seabed cable routes for the Westermost Rough wind farm in the UK North Sea.

Westermost Rough development has started their offshore operations already and is expected to finish in Q3 2014.

This £800m wind farm will include 35 turbines of 6MW capacity and will provide electricity to power more than 200,000 homes.

ESS plans to deploy an innovative SCAR subsea boulder clearance system on up to 35 array cable routes, which will be abroad the anchor-controlled Havila Jupiter vessel, supported by underwater robots.

The contract was materialized after successful field trials on project. A key factor in awarding the contract was technology developed by ESS on cost effective and accurate seabed clearance operations, said, Keith McDermott, commercial director, Ecosse Subsea Systems.
