Today’s renewable energy news includes updates from Corvus Energy, BYD, ENKA, GE Vernova, Iberdrola, among others.

Corvus Energy and BYD Deepen Marine Battery Partnership

Corvus Energy and BYD Energy Storage have signed a Strategic Cooperation Agreement to expand collaboration on next-generation marine battery technologies. The agreement builds on a memorandum of understanding signed in December 2025 and formalises the next phase of cooperation between the two companies. The partnership will focus on co-developing advanced lithium iron phosphate (LFP) marine battery solutions for the maritime sector. BYD Energy Storage brings large-scale battery cell manufacturing expertise, while Corvus Energy contributes its experience in zero-emission maritime energy systems and marine battery integration. The companies said the collaboration aims to accelerate innovation in safer, more energy-dense and cost-efficient battery systems for ships and offshore vessels. The partnership highlights growing investment in maritime decarbonisation and electrification technologies as the global shipping industry increases adoption of zero-emission and hybrid propulsion systems.

ENKA and GE Vernova Launch 852MW Gas Power Plant in Türkiye

ENKA and GE Vernova have started commercial operations at the 852MW Kırklareli power plant in northwestern Türkiye near the Bulgarian border. The facility is Türkiye’s first power plant powered by GE Vernova’s HA gas turbine technology and marks a major milestone in the modernization of the country’s electricity generation fleet. The project was inaugurated in the presence of Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar alongside representatives from ENKA and GE Vernova. Under a long-term agreement, GE Vernova will also provide maintenance and operational support services aimed at improving plant reliability, performance and asset visibility. The project strengthens Türkiye’s energy infrastructure and power supply reliability while supporting growing electricity demand. It also highlights continued investment in advanced high-efficiency generation technologies as the country balances energy security, industrial growth and emissions reduction objectives.

Iberdrola Nears Completion of Tâmega Norte Hybrid Wind Project

Iberdrola is nearing completion of the 195MW Tâmega Norte wind farm in Portugal as part of the Tâmega Complex hybrid wind-hydro project. The development is described as the first grid-connected wind and pumped-hydro hybrid system on the Iberian Peninsula. Tâmega Norte will include 27 Vestas turbines and is expected to generate around 414GWh of renewable electricity annually. A second project, Tâmega Sul, is also under construction and will add another 185GWh per year. The wind farms are integrated with a pumped-storage hydroelectric system, enabling large-scale energy storage and improved grid stability. Iberdrola said the combined projects represent an investment of €346 million and are expected to avoid more than 230,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. The project is financed by the European Investment Bank, while Norges Bank will hold a 49 percent stake once operational.
