Interserve wins GBP-146m contract for a 15 MW waste-to-energy and recycling project in Glasgow

Greentech Lead Europe: Interserve has received a
GBP-146-million (USD 226m/EUR 187m) engineering, procurement and construction
(EPC) contract from UK company Viridor for a 15-MW waste-to-energy and recycling
center in Glasgow. Viridor has a 25-year design, build, finance and operation
waste management contract with the Glasgow City Council.

The power generation unit and the recycling
facility will have recycling and anaerobic digestion equipment. The
plant will utilize waste treatment  and gasification technology from
Interserve’s specialist supply-chain partners. The project will be constructed
at south of Glasgow.

Viridor plans to start the construction in the summer of
2013. The project will be completed by early 2016. When completed, the
Recycling and Renewable Energy Center will process 175,000 to 200,000 tons of
waste per year. It is designed to cut the waste volumes send to landfill by 90
percent.
