Highlights of Cybercom environmental sustainability report 2013

Cybercom, an IT consulting company, has released its corporate sustainability and environmental sustainability reports.

The company claims it is offering innovative and climate-friendly solutions to clients. Cybercom Green IT services include everything from helping mobile network owners reduce their energy consumption by optimizing their networks to creating the right conditions for telecommuting and paperless document management in workplaces.

Highlights from the environmental sustainability activities for 2013:

  • Launched Cybercom Cloud in Finland
  • CO2 emissions per revenue krona increased between 2012 and 2013, but have still decreased by 13 percent compared to 2011 as they set the target for a reduction of at least 5 percent by 2015.
  • Introduced an IT-based communication tool. This investment provided immediate results in the first year, and although emissions increased in 2013, they are lower than in 2011 and therefore in line with its target.
  • Cybercom  is working with environmental certification of the company’s activities in accordance with ISO14001. Cybercom is striving for all our businesses to eventually be certified, and work has begun.
  • Old IT equipment which, when possible, is sold for reuse or otherwise goes to partners for recycling.
  • Lights switched off by timer after business hours.
  • Handling of discarded electronics products that are recycled where possible.
  • All printers are set by default to duplex prin- ting, and employees are encouraged to avoid using hard copies as far as possible.
  • Recycling of paper and other waste.
  • Procurement of products, consumables and services must, if possible, meet high environ- mental standards.
  • Purchase of renewable electricity.

Cybercom places requirements on suppliers of office materials and computers. These suppliers must meet the environmental requirements of TCO 95 and TCO 99, and the materials must be recyclable.

Total energy use for Cybercom in 2013 was 2,437 MWh:  Water– 66.8 percent; Coal– 16.7 percent; Nuclear– 9.1 percent; Wind– 6.8 percent; Natural gas– 0.5 percent; Oil– 0.1 percent.

During 2013 and early 2014, the company also conducted a number of interviews and surveys with employees in Sweden and Finland as well as clients and shareholders to identify the main sustainability issues for Cybercom.
